Another major element of life at St. Joseph's was sports. When we entered as 6th Latiners we soon learned that for the duration of our stay at the school we would be categorized as Bears, Trojans, Indians (the world was not very politically correct in those days) or Ramblers. It turned out, when we hit Poet year that the new wing would change the sports orientation -- but we had no way of knowing that then. All of us were assigned, permanently, to one of those teams and temporarily to one of the four divisions: Peanuts, Freshman, Juniors, and Seniors. For the most part, we started as peanuts althought some of the larger and more athletic, I believe, were categorized as Freshman. In second high, most of us moved up into the Freshman ranks although a few (including your writer here) stayed in the Peanut ranks for another year. Here, from BJ's movie collection is a video presentation of sports at St. Joe's while we were there. SJC sports dialup version SJC sports broadband version
